Experimental battle KATARAKT / HOST

Katarakt battle is an experimental concept that connects dancers from various dance styles, as well as artists from other creative fields. It creates a space for the meeting of different movement languages, perspectives, and approaches to creation. It is unique in that it has no rules and consciously avoids dividing movement into good and bad or beautiful and ugly. Everyone can bring their own style, experience, and way of expression to the stage.

The aim is to encourage individuality, creativity, and authentic expression while alleviating the pressure that often accompanies traditional competition formats. Performers respond to various tasks and concepts on the spot, which brings an element of chance, improvisation, and the ability to make decisions in the moment to the battle.

The experimental battle begins with a one-minute pre-selection to experimental music, from which the top 16 dancers advance. They then perform various tasks that test their creativity and ability to react in real time. The evening also includes a One Move Battle, where performers qualify with a single move, and subsequent rounds take the form of exchanging one move.

The diverse jury brings a wide range of perspectives and promotes an open perception of dance and movement. The evening includes a DJ, live music, and a painter who will capture the movement on canvas in real time.

Experimental workshop

The Katarakt battle in the Galaxie will be preceded by an experimental workshop focused on discovering your own movement language and finding tools that can enliven and expand improvisation.

The second edition of the Katarakt battle is being held in cooperation with DanceConnected at Kulturní stanice Galaxie. Marta Blašková moves artistically between contemporary dance, street styles, and vogue, and has long been connecting these worlds. She perceives dance styles through the lens of experimentation, which existed even before individual forms were defined and established. It is precisely in experimental movement that she sees great potential for dance communities across styles to come together.

Her achievements include winning IMPULSTANZ Battle 2025 and participating in and winning awards at experimental battles such as Slovak Gold and Dance for Gold.
