About the event

Simona Deaconescu and Vanessa Goodman’s workshop explores the shifting boundaries between the real and the imaginary body. They practice guided self-control practices, from folding, softening, and shifting bones to stretching and compressing muscles. Both choreographers create space for new vocabulary and embodied possibilities in their workshop, inviting participants to explore hybrid forms of movement in which the body can fall apart, fold and transform again.

Drawing inspiration from natural and technological systems, they explore how the body can change and adapt to different environments, from the graceful movement of an octopus to the invisible networks of bacteria that live inside us. Try out tasks focused on breath, volumetric movement and speed. Fold and stretch your bodies beyond the boundaries of known formulas. The workshop aims to develop a performative body attuned to atmospheric states and capable of generating layered compositions where meaning comes from both what is visible and what is imagined.

This workshop is part of “Extended Bodies. Performative Routes,” a cultural project co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, Romania. The project does not necessarily represent the position of the Administration of the National Cultural Fund. AFCN is not responsible for the project’s content or how the project results can be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary of the financing.

Running time: 120 minutes

The practice sharing will take place in English.
