About the event
This time, our regular contemporary dance class will take the form of a special WHAT A DANCE workshop, which follows the WHAT THE FOLK performance. You can come and enjoy it the very next evening – and if you’d like, you can participate too.
What happens when an ordinary movement turns into dance? When we shift our weight from one foot to the other whilst waiting at a bus stop or in a queue at the supermarket, we usually don’t even think about it. Back and forth, one step here, one step there. And when we add rhythm and repetition, it can easily become dance. Such a human dance. A folk dance?
We’ll begin the workshop by tuning into the present moment and grounding ourselves in our bodies. We’ll calm our nervous system – rocking from side to side has precisely that effect. Through this movement, we’ll connect with one another and, under Petr’s guidance, gradually, playfully and effortlessly turn simple weight-shifting into dance. Together, we’ll enjoy the joy of movement and dance, and remind ourselves of all that can emerge when we set out to do something together – with childlike curiosity and playfulness.
Would you like to be part of the performance? The workshop also offers the chance to take part in the performance the following evening as a ‘secret guest’. To take part, you must register in advance, stay for the final ten minutes of the workshop, and arrive an hour and a half before the performance begins on the day of the show.
Peter Šavel is a choreographer, dancer, teacher and life coach based in Brussels. He studied at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava and at the Belgian international school P.A.R.T.S.
